Monica Denevan

Monica Denevan is an American fine art photographer. She studied photography at San Francisco State University, where her love of portraiture began. Known for her series, “Songs of the River: Portraits from Burma,” Denevan travels with a medium-format camera and prints from negatives in her traditional darkroom. More recently, she has made photographs in Yosemite National Park and produced larger work on aluminum from her scanned negatives.

Denevan’s photographs have been exhibited internationally including solo shows at Scott Nichols Gallery (Sonoma, CA), Duncan Miller Gallery (Santa Monica, CA), Tao Gallery (Hong Kong), and Serindia Gallery Annex (Bangkok). She had a solo show at Trart Gallery (Trieste, Italy) in 2022 which was extended twice. The gallery published a catalog to accompany the exhibition. Last year her work was accepted into the London Art Biennale and this year into the Chianciano Biennale in Italy. Denevan’s photographs have been included in group exhibitions at Photo-Eye Gallery (Santa Fe, NM), Center for Photographic Art (Carmel, CA), Capital Culture Gallery (UK), and the Triton Museum of Art (Santa Clara, CA) among others. Her work in regularly exhibited at the Affordable Art Fairs in Europe, the photography fairs in Los Angeles, and AIPAD in New York.

Monica Denevan’s photographs are in the permanent collection of the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, Springline Art Collection in Menlo Park, CA, and UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco. She is represented by Scott Nichols Gallery (Sonoma, CA) and Capital Culture Gallery (UK). She lives and works in San Francisco.
